What is SEO?

Search engine optimization is performed using 2 primary methods known as On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO . In addition, Local SEO is a methodology used to achieve optimal search results within a targeted geographical area surrounding your business, which could be as small as your town or perhaps even as large as your state or region.

On-Page SEO

On-page SEO, also known as on-site SEO, is based on many factors related to your website pages, including some that are visible to search engines but fully or partially hidden from viewers. On-Page SEO includes:

 

  • Building your website pages utilizing both popular and "long-tail" search phrases based on keyword research
  • Updating your pages frequently in order to achieve “freshness”
  • Optimizing your keyword density , which measures how frequently your search terms and close variants appear on the page
  • Structuring your pages to properly use titles, subtitles, and paragraphs, and hidden page attributes like the page title, page description, image names and image descriptions
  • Configuring each web page address (URL) to include your main keyword phrase separated by hyphens
  • Cross-linking to your internal pages, and linking out to trusted, authoritative websites for content related to your web page
  • Utilizing “Content Marketing” techniques to achieve high content relevance and content depth for your website pages, blog posts, videos, infographics, etc. (the average Google page 1 result contains 1890 words according to a 2016 study).
  • Optimizing your site for mobile viewers, who now account for the majority of online searches

Off-Page SEO

Off-page SEO, also known as off-site SEO, is the process of achieving better website search rankings through a combination of factors that occur outside the internal structure and content of your website. 

These off-site factors work together to improve the way search engines rank your site based on the "authority" it receives by way of the quality of incoming links from other websites, its relevance to the search being executed, and the "trustworthiness" of your website’s information. 

Off-Page SEO includes:
  • Obtaining quality inbound links from reliable, authoritative websites – which is typically the most productive form of off-site SEO, and may include working with trusted outside bloggers to include relevant links to your website based on the content of their posts 
  • Adding your website links to trusted directories 
  • Guest blogging on other websites in return for a link to your website 
  • Creating press releases with inbound links to your website, and distributing your releases through popular online release services 
  • Leveraging social media marketing to obtain inbound links or brand mentions from social media
